These are the exact points where the new photo detection cameras will be installed in Bogotá
The Mobility Secretariat of Bogotá announced that in the coming days new speed camera devices will begin operating on three important road corridors in the capital.
These are new devices on the avenues Las Américas, NQS, and El Dorado, as part of a comprehensive road safety strategy aimed at preventing accidents, reducing risky behaviors, and protecting the lives of those who move around the city.
In detail, the new cameras will be located at the following points:

  • Av. El Dorado – Carrera 25 (West to East)
  • Av. Las Américas – Carrera 58 (East to West)
  • Av. Las Américas – Carrera 58 (West to East)
The Mobility Secretariat assured that these points were defined based on technical analyses that take into account accident rates, speeding, and other driver behaviors.
Additionally, the presence of educational institutions, hospitals, and other establishments with a high flow of people was considered, making it necessary to strengthen speed management and compliance with traffic regulations.

It is important to note that these devices and their locations already have authorization from the National Road Safety Agency and are required to be signposted so that people are aware of their location in advance.
The District estimates that if drivers travel at a maximum speed of 50 km/h at the points where the new cameras will be installed, approximately 50 lives could be saved and around 900 injuries reduced over the next four years.
“No death on the road is acceptable. That is why we will strengthen our road safety strategy to save 50 lives and prevent 900 injuries with our new lifesaving cameras. We will install them gradually in corridors prioritized by road safety criteria,” said the Mobility Secretary, María Fernanda Ortiz.

It is important to remember that, according to the entity, the goal is to install 160 new devices, so that by 2027 the city will have 480 enabled speed detection points and 240 cameras installed. Currently, it has 99.
Speeding is the main cause of deaths on the road. We will timely inform the public about the educational and sanctioning phases,” added María Fernanda Ortiz.
The new cameras have technology to detect violations related to speeding, driving in restricted areas, and technical-mechanical inspections.

Each recorded evidence is subsequently reviewed and validated by a traffic officer before starting the corresponding process.
Likewise, initially the cameras will only operate in a pedagogical manner and later, after some time, they will begin issuing fines following the respective review by a traffic officer.
These cameras arrive at a time when road accident rates are soaring in Bogotá.
According to official figures, as of July 31, road deaths have increased by 33 percent compared to the same period last year.
