On the morning of this Monday, August 24, one of the most experienced police officers who accompanied President Abelardo De La Espriella was removed from the Police scheme.
EL TIEMPO’s Investigative Unit established that it is Colonel Jorge Delgado, from the 75th course, who was the private secretary of the then Police director, retired General William Rincón.
‘They are trying to discredit me’
Sources within the Police told EL TIEMPO that the colonel is mentioned in a case for alleged influence peddling, linked to another involving trafficking of ammunition, weapons, and explosives under investigation, in which several police officers from the security details of high dignitaries have already been arrested.
There is talk of a call he allegedly made to intervene on behalf of other officers: “On the day of the case in Guasca, through a phone call from Cuestas, Colonel Delgado allegedly intervened in the case with the officers in charge, without success. Additionally, Superintendent Cuestas reportedly stated that Colonel Delgado was with them and had ‘opened up’ before the checkpoint.”
EL TIEMPO contacted Colonel Delgado to ask if he had already been notified of his removal and he began by assuring that he has not been informed of anything and that, in fact, he is with President Abelardo De La Espriella’s advance team.
“Regarding the mentioned call, a retired officer who had been detained contacted me. He was the one who called me and put me on the phone with the officer conducting the operation. I asked what was happening, and he told me they had detained the officer with weapons; my response was: ‘Carry out the procedure you have to do‘”, Colonel Delgado told EL TIEMPO.
He added: “They are distorting the information because I did not intervene for anyone. Saying to carry out the procedure does not mean I am condoning them.”
Furthermore, he was emphatic that contrary to what the officers detained with the weapons said, he was not with them on the day of the detention.

“I am willing to clarify everything. This is an attempt to discredit me”, the officer concluded.
