A high-end vehicle traveling through a residential area of the town of Puente Aranda, on the night of last Monday, August 24, was requested by police officers who were in the sector.
However, after the stop signal, the driver of the car, a BMW 320i, fled, triggering a strong pursuit through several nearby streets until he was finally stopped and captured. And when they stopped him, the agents got a surprise.
The identity
The subject was wearing a police jacket, and EL TIEMPO’s Investigative Unit established that the subject was identified as Héctor Wilber Gómez Veloza, 55 years old.
According to the official report known by this newspaper, Gómez Veloza was captured after verifying that, inside the vehicle with license plates BWN-716, he was carrying a .32 caliber revolver with ammunition.
The subject, who was also wearing a jacket and a cap with police insignia, was a merchant in the sector.
After the arrest procedure, carried out by agents of the CAI Santa Matilde, the subject was caught in flagrante delicto and was placed at the disposal of justice for the crimes of trafficking and carrying firearms in conjunction with the crime of illegal use of uniforms and insignia.
According to the case file, the fake police officer has a record for document forgery and annotations in a family court.

This newspaper had access to the capture legalization hearings, held in the 72nd municipal criminal court of Bogotá.
And despite the fact that he was charged with both crimes – which he did not accept – the prosecuting entity withdrew the request for a security measure and he was released.

Sources close to the case told EL TIEMPO that another process against Gómez Veloza for falsification of a public document dating from November 2011 is being verified.
In this process, a Bogotá court granted him a principle of opportunity and the waiver of criminal action.
While it is established why he was carrying an unregistered weapon and what he was going to do with the police uniform, the subject will remain at liberty.
