On the night of Wednesday, June 3, President Gustavo Petro announced on his official X account that he had ordered a bombing targeted at the dissidents of alias Iván Mordisco in Guaviare.
This statement comes after the Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez, announced a few hours earlier the arrest of alias La Mona or Katherine, alleged leader of the same dissidents in a transit operation on the road connecting Ibagué with Melgar.
President’s Announcement
Around 11 p.m., President Gustavo Petro wrote a short message, announcing that he had ordered a bombing, although he did not specify the area, only stating that it would be in the department of Guaviare.
The Colombian leader wrote: “I have ordered a bombing in Guaviare where the ‘Mordisco’ structures that participated in the combat massacred each other with another dissidence.”
He also provided a summary of what happened, where “a minor was recovered, thirteen rifles seized, and 3 of their forces killed.”
This message cites a publication by the Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez, where he announced the capture of three alleged leaders under alias Mordisco, including alias La Mona and the seizure of abundant war material in a cache.
“In the operation, 1,200 cartridges of caliber 5.56, 18 rifle magazines, a machine gun barrel, and other war components that would be used to spread terror in Meta and Guaviare were seized,” wrote the minister.
Likewise, he announced the capture of a person of Ecuadorian nationality, who was traveling in the vehicle with the 2 detained Colombians.
Due to the short length of the message, the details of what happened were not known, although the minister himself provided all the information about the government’s 23rd bombing in another publication.
Details of the Bombing
Minister Sánchez published another message citing President Petro’s announcement, where he detailed the characteristics of the attack and assured that several guerrillas from that dissidence intend to demobilize.
The official said the Armed Forces “carried out an offensive action against the close circle of alias Mordisco in the rural area of San José del Guaviare, approximately 22 kilometers southeast of the place where the massacre between the criminal structures of alias Calarcá and alias Mordisco occurred.”
Also, a minor previously recruited by that dissidence was rescued and three members of the armed group died during the bombing.
Likewise, thirteen long guns, two short guns, abundant ammunition, and supply and communication materials were seized.
According to the minister, that dissidence is the one that has carried out the most attacks in the country, so military operations continue to prevent them from attacking the civilian population.
“Intelligence information in Guaviare, indicates that numerous members of both criminal structures have expressed their intention to demobilize and submit to legality, despite death threats they receive from their own leaders to prevent their disengagement,” assured Minister Sánchez.
Finally, the head of the Defense Ministry assured that those who demobilize will be “welcomed by humanitarian care and social reintegration programs.”
