On the afternoon of this Tuesday, July 21, authorities were alerted by the discovery of a suspected explosive device in Bogotá. According to preliminary information, the events occurred on Carrera Séptima between 67th and 70th streets.
EL TIEMPO consulted with the Bogotá Security Secretariat to learn the details of the case.

This is known after the discovery of a ‘suspicious object’
After carrying out the corresponding protocols and verifying the conditions of the place, the authorities ruled out the presence of an “explosive device“.
On Tuesday afternoon, a preventive closure was carried out for several minutes on Carrera Séptima. Passage was not allowed for private cars or public transport vehicles while any emergency was being ruled out.
The procedure took several minutes and around 3:30 PM, as soon as any threat of a suspected “explosive device” was ruled out, the area was reopened and transport services resumed.
Minutes after the alert call from the community in the sector, the Security Secretariat also highlighted that the abandonment of the suspected object occurred exactly at 72nd Street with Carrera Séptima.
“We inform that after verifying a suspicious package at 72nd Street with Carrera 7 by our anti-explosives units, the presence of any explosive device was ruled out,” reads the statement from official channels.
