Supersalud ordered the closure of services provided by Clínica Láser Surgical in Bogotá: 'They expose patients to high risk'
This Saturday, June 6, the National Superintendency of Health (Supersalud) ordered the closure of services provided by the Clínica Láser Surgical, located in Bogotá.
According to the entity, this establishment will not be able to provide plastic and aesthetic surgery services, as well as pharmaceutical services, after it was evidenced that it failed to comply with a precautionary measure imposed on May 29, which prohibited it from operating until verifying compliance with the enabling conditions required to safely treat patients.
This establishment will not be able to provide services such as plastic and aesthetic surgery, as well as pharmaceutical services,
Supersalud reported, through a statement, that the closure was carried out after receiving six complaints from citizens who warned about the possible irregular provision of services by Clínica Láser Surgical. Among the allegations are the following alleged failures:
  • Care.
  • Inconsistencies in clinical records.
  • Dissatisfaction with surgical results.
  • Findings that would evidence possible risks to patient safety.
Upon addressing these complaints, the entity indicated that the reopening of the establishment constitutes a breach of the order issued, taking into account that, according to Supersalud, the clinic registered new openings and service offerings without prior verification by the health authority.

The clinic obstructed Supersalud’s inspection

After addressing the complaints filed by citizens with Supersalud, the entity carried out an inspection, surveillance, and control visit to Clínica Láser Surgical this June 5.
However, during the procedure, the presence of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police was necessary because the people in charge of the clinic did not allow the entry of the officials responsible for the verification, which, according to the entity, constitutes an obstruction to inspection and surveillance functions.
Supersalud warned that the actions carried out by the establishment “expose patients to a high risk, by increasing the possibility of complications during care and even compromising their lives.”
This is because Clínica Láser Surgical failed to comply with the standards required for the safe provision of health services. Therefore, Supersalud will assume the responsibility for monitoring and verifying compliance with the adopted measures.
