Former Governor Jara responds whether celebration with person investigated for UNGRD scandal was a nod to candidacy for the governorship of Meta
At the end of last May, the Supreme Court upheld the call to trial against the representative to the chamber Juan Diego Muñoz Cabrera, from the Meta department, within the investigation for the looting of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).
That is why in his department it has drawn attention, the version according to which, midweek, he would have launched his pre-campaign for the governorship for the 2027 elections.

Photos circulating on social media and that were sent to EL TIEMPO’s Investigative Unit by local leaders, show a celebration attended by at least 400 people including politicians, showbiz people, businessmen, and ranchers.
“Witnesses say Alan Jara and Congressman Jaime Raúl Salamanca, from the Green party, were there. It was at a place 15 minutes from Villavo, a pre-launch of Dr. Muñoz’s campaign”, a local leader told EL TIEMPO.
Regarding the version that mayors from several municipalities also attended, EL TIEMPO contacted former governor Alan Jara, who stated that the photo circulating of him at the event is fake news. However, he admitted that he participated in the celebration.
“That photo is not real and it was the celebration of Dr. Muñoz’s birthday”, Jara explained.

And another attendee who asked not to reveal their name said that although Muñoz is being prosecuted for attending alleged meetings where the exchange of support for President Gustavo Petro’s legislative agenda in exchange for projects was agreed upon, there is no prohibition for political meetings or aspirations for elected office: “He has not been convicted in court”.
EL TIEMPO also contacted the representative to the Chamber for Boyacá Jaime Raúl Salamanca, another attendee, who assured that the meeting had no political connotation.

“Yes, I attended, but it was not to formalize a candidacy. It was his 50th birthday, a more family and close friends matter”, Salamanca assured.
EL TIEMPO also called Muñoz to hear his version, but by the time of this edition’s closing, he had not responded.
