According to the public service vehicle driver, Egan Bernal’s Tesla hit him on the side around 2 a.m. on Saturday. Upon getting out of the taxi, he began to complain to the cyclist, who was accompanied by other people.
The taxi driver explained to the cited media that when taking photos of the crash, he had problems with some people accompanying the 2019 Tour de France champion and was unable to properly document the collision. He also noted that one of the cyclist’s companions smelled of alcohol, although he did not confirm if the rider himself had been drinking.
“He started arguing, complaining, and I told him: ‘Likewise, I go in my lane and on my road.’ What happened is that he moved the car to the left and then to the right and hit my car, I couldn’t brake in time,” said the taxi driver.
“He got out and said: ‘No, nothing happened’ and was about to get back in the car, but I told him: ‘No, something did happen. He responds because you hit my car’,” added the person involved in the crash.

Amid the tense moment, Egan Bernal reportedly got into his Tesla and left the accident scene. The Colombian cyclist took his car to a public parking lot where he left it parked.
The taxi driver called the Police to go to the parking lot after the accident. The main problem was that the officers could not enter the place as it was private. According to his account, he was not seeking financial compensation for the crash, but an apology.
“While at the parking lot, the police told me they couldn’t do anything because it was already in a private area,” he explained.
