Around 8:30 p.m. this Thursday, August 20, a hit was recorded in the Usaquén locality, north of Bogotá.
The attack took place in the San Antonio Occidental neighborhood, when a hitman on a motorcycle fired his gun at a man who was traveling in a Mercedes Benz 230E, model 87.
The identity
Although the authorities are still in the so-called urgent acts, the Investigative Unit of EL TIEMPO established that the victim is an emerald miner and politician from Boyacá.
He is Edilson Castro Castellanos, originally from Maripí, Boyacá.
Castro Castellanos was a councilman of that municipality for at least 2 terms and it is known that he had gem sales businesses in the capital.
Sources in western Boyacá confirmed to EL TIEMPO the case and provided details that are already being investigated.
The other two murders
“In the mines it is known that Mr. Castro and several close associates are apparently close to the Rincón clan, to which the emerald miners extradited to the United States Horacio Triana Romero and Gilberto Rincón belonged,” the source told EL TIEMPO.
And added: “A little after the pandemic, two associates of Mr. Castro were murdered, also in the north of Bogotá. One was named Yesid”.

A local politician also said that Castro was known in the area as ‘Bichiro’: “He was trusted by Omar Rincón, they were always seen together”.
Now, authorities in Bogotá are trying to locate the hitman who killed the emerald miner.
