On the afternoon of this Wednesday, the preliminary investigation against Gustavo Petro’s campaign, which was being handled by the Commission of Accusations, was officially filed. Possible irregularities in financing were found. However, there are differences in positions within the investigative triumvirate.
Representative Alirio Uribe, who led the investigative triumvirate, filed the document on the night of this Tuesday stating that there were irregularities in the investigation, but he did not find grounds to link President Gustavo Petro.
. “It is ordered to issue an inhibitory resolution in criminal matters in favor of Gustavo Petro Urrego, in his capacity as president, and to refrain from opening a formal investigation against him due to the atypical nature of the conduct,” says the document presented by Uribe.
One day later, representatives Gloria Arizabaleta and Wilmer Carrillo distanced themselves from this position and filed a dissenting opinion requesting to summon President Gustavo Petro for questioning regarding possible responsibilities in irregular financing.
“The Investigative Triumvirate must arrange the formal inclusion of citizen Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego in the process, through the reception of questioning,” says the dissent filed by the two representatives, who distanced themselves from the position of the one who led the preliminary investigation for almost two years.
