‘President Petro did ask about Juliana Guerrero’s security’; A. Rodríguez explains why the controversial young woman has a protection scheme

'President Petro did ask about Juliana Guerrero's security'; A. Rodríguez explains why the controversial young woman has a protection scheme
Despite being called to trial for falsifying her diplomas and having a new process underway for possible bribery charges, several bodyguards from the National Protection Unit (UNP) continue to provide security to the young and obscure Juliana Guerrero.
This was evidenced in an audio, published by Semana magazine, in which she herself asks a UNP analyst to reinforce her security detail as a political leader of the Democratic Pole.

Guerrero’s lie?

“Okay. I just received a message from the president sent by Augusto Rodríguez that says: ‘Tell Mrs. Juliana to accept her status as an activist of a political party or human rights activist because we will have to remove the measures. I told him I would do so. So they are going to send me the party membership certificate of the Democratic Pole. Then I asked Augusto, because I just called him, and he told me to send that to the person who was doing my security study, which is you, to change I don’t know what kind of things, I am not a public official but an activist and political leader to justify my security detail and reinforce it,” the audio says, which – according to EL TIEMPO – dates from mid-April.

The fact that an investigated person is protected by the State sparked controversy and even the version that Rodríguez resigned from the UNP because of this matter.
The Investigative Unit of EL TIEMPO contacted him and after clarifying that his resignation is due to the change of government, like dozens of officials, Rodríguez agreed to explain the Guerrero case.
After recalling that it was President Petro who introduced Guerrero at the controversial 2025 cabinet meeting as a young and rebellious leader, Rodríguez said that at that time emergency protection measures were enabled for her, in which he did participate.

The meeting with Petro

She was an official of the Ministry of the Interior and I received a letter with an annex, signed by Angie Rodríguez, where alleged harassment was mentioned and it was recommended to process the protection form,” said Rodríguez and noted that Angie Rodríguez later said that signature was not hers.
The fact is that Augusto Rodríguez admits that last April, during a conversation with President Petro, he asked him about Guerrero’s security: “I cannot deny that the President asked me about that girl’s security. I explained that the measures would be withdrawn because she was no longer a public official. And that if she wanted to keep them, she had to return to the initial population for which they were given, which was student leader and political activist”.
And he added: “She called me and told me she was going to get the certificate, I think from the Democratic Pole. And I told her she had to send those documents to the analyst in charge of her security study. But it is false that there was talk of reinforcing her scheme“.

The trip to the World Cup

In fact, Rodríguez assured that at the UNP it was believed that she had resigned from the scheme when she left the country without notice: “It was believed to be a matter of threats or a complicated judicial situation. But then it was found out that she had gone to the Football World Cup“.

Rodríguez also clarified that it is false that Guerrero has a mega security scheme: “It is normal”.
And he was emphatic that in the Risk Evaluation and Measures Recommendation Committee there are members from the Ministries of Interior and Defense, the Human Rights Agency of the Presidency, and the UNP. Also, that he does not participate in those decisions: “I only sign the resolution. I do participate in emergency measures”.
Finally, he said that Guerrero retains her state security scheme. And when asked who recorded it, he said he believes it could be some union, which has former DAS members.
